Choose where to work
Deta has two ways to open a PDF: as a local file in the desktop app, or as a cloud drawing in a workspace or connected file source. The desktop app supports both.
| You want to… | Start here | Where your work goes |
|---|---|---|
| Work on a file on your computer | Desktop app → | Save to your computer with Save or Save As Copy…. |
| Work on a cloud drawing | Work on the imported drawing in Deta. | |
| Open a PDF from Dropbox or Google Drive | File sources → choose the connected account → Import | Work on the drawing in Deta; save back to the provider separately. |
Opening a local PDF does not upload it. Use Upload in its viewer to create a separate cloud copy in a workspace.
File sources and workspaces
A file source is where a drawing comes from. A workspace organizes drawings and access for you or your team in Deta.
Connecting Dropbox or Google Drive adds the account under File sources. You choose which PDFs to import; connecting does not import or share the whole account. You can open these drawings without adding them to a workspace.
See Understand workspaces for organization and team access.
