Area Tool

Calculate areas and perimeters of regions on your construction drawings.

Introduction

The Area Tool is a powerful PDF area measurement tool that allows you to measure the area of a region directly on a PDF drawing without using any external reference. This makes it easy to quickly understand and calculate surface areas while reviewing drawings. It is ideal for anyone needing to calculate surface area on PDF documents, such as in construction or design projects.

Note: Before measuring, ensure the drawing scale in Deta matches the PDF scale so area calculations are accurate. The scale can be adjusted at the bottom of the screen. An accurate drawing scale ensures reliable PDF area calculations and measurement results.

Step 1: Open the Area Tool (PDF area measurement)

Locate the Area Tool, represented by an area icon, in the toolbar on the left side of the screen. Click the icon to activate the PDF measurement tool.

  1. Click on the drawing to place the first point.
  2. Continue clicking to place additional points and define the area's boundary.
  3. Close the shape to complete the area measurement. The PDF measurement software will automatically calculate the area based on the drawing scale.

During drawing, drawing controls behave differently depending on the platform:

  • iPad: Three control buttons appear at the top of the screen:
    • Cancel (X): Cancel and discard the current area.
    • Undo (Back Arrow): Remove the last placed point
    • Done (Check Mark): Finish and calculate the area
  • Desktop: Control buttons do not appear. Instead:
    • Press Esc to cancel the drawing.
    • Double-click the final point or press Enter to finish and calculate the area.

The calculated area will be displayed automatically based on the current drawing scale. This makes it easy to measure areas in PDF files and quickly check results with the PDF measurement tool.
